I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own, more than you could ever know
Make my wish come true, all I want for Christmas is you
I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need (and I)
Don't care about presents underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking there upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy with a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own, more than you could ever know
Make my wish come true, all I want for Christmas is you
You baby, oh
I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow (and I'm)
I'm just gonna keep on waiting underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it to the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to hear those magic reindeer click
Cause I just want you here tonight, holding on to me so tight
What more can I do? Oh baby, all I want for Christmas is you
Oh
All the lights are shining so brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing, I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa, won't you bring me the one I really need? Won't you please bring my baby to me?
I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my baby standing right outside my door
I just want him for my own, more than you could ever know
Make my wish come true, oh baby, all I want for Christmas is you
All I want for Christmas is you, baby
All I want for Christmas is you, baby
All I want for Christmas is you, baby
All I want for Christmas is you, baby
Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You," released in 1994, is a song whose intro alone evokes excitement.
It's become a quintessential Christmas song and a classic in modern pop music.
Every year during the Christmas season, it re-conquers charts worldwide and continues to receive immense love.
(If Korea has the 'Cherry Blossom Pension,' this song might be the 'Santa Pension'...)
Interestingly, this song was composed in the middle of summer!
It's said that Mariah Carey worked hard on it, overcoming the summer heat while envisioning the Christmas atmosphere.
The first line of the lyrics, "I donβt want a lot for Christmas...," expresses that the singer's Christmas wish is just one thing:
Instead of extravagant gifts, the song conveys the preciousness of spending time with a loved one.
It's also true that the movie boosted its fame.
The song was already a popular Christmas hit since its initial release, but
it gained even wider recognition after being featured in the 2003 movie "Love Actually".
When it comes to the most famous scenes in "Love Actually," two come to mind:
the "Sketchbook Confession" scene and the "End-of-Term Concert" scene!
"All I Want for Christmas Is You" was featured in the "End-of-Term Concert" scene, making it even more famous!
It's an omnibus-style film with multiple couples interwoven against a Christmas backdrop.
The characters are intricately connected, making it more enjoyable to watch.
Many incredibly famous songs also appear in the film.
If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to watch it this Christmas! π
And in March 2017, a short sequel was released to commemorate the 14th anniversary of its release.
Almost all the production crew and cast reunited, but
due to Alan Rickman's death in January 2016, his couple sadly couldn't be together.
