As my husband, who watched the drama with me, said, it seems to be somewhat gloomy and has a strange atmosphere that might be divisive.
The drama's atmosphere is consistently low-saturation and dark,
reminded me of the movie <Hwacha> several times.
On the weekend of November 29th, I watched the entire Netflix drama <Trunk> over two days.
It's an 8-episode drama, so one binge-watching session was enough, but!
Seo Hyun-jin's acting skills in portraying the sensitive and secretive character are good, but
it didn't quite fit.
She would have been much better suited as the heroine of a bright romantic comedy.
Seo Hyun-jin lost so much weight to play 'No In-ji' that she looked a little pitiful.
The time flow isn't linear; it goes back and forth between the past and the present.
If you even slightly zone out, you'll be like "....?"
The more I see Lee Seo-yeon, the ex-wife who shows the essence of gaslighting,
"This woman is crazy"
is what I kept saying...
The precarious film music producer protagonist who is always suspected of being a drug offender.
The NM representative, a marriage matching company, says that they are pioneering a new service market by asking if you're confident that you can marry one person and live happily ever after in a 100-year life.
A criminal who stalks and destroys if he can't possess.
Because the phrase I said most while watching the drama was "Are you crazy?"
I think that says it all.
Original Novel Cover
It uses the main plot, but many of the details have been adapted.
In the novel, 'Han Jeong-won,' played by Gong Yoo, is far from the main character.
In the original novel, No In-ji finishes her marriage life with her fourth husband, a divorced composer,
and meets Eom Tae-seong on a blind date arranged by her friend, Si-jeong,
but he continues to stalk her, coming to her company even after she refuses him.
And her fourth husband asks her to extend the marriage again,
and No In-ji continues her married life.
The ending is also different.
In the original, Eom Tae-seong comes to In-ji's house
and leaves a rice cake with a Post-it note asking why he is disliked,
and the novel ends with No In-ji fainting upon seeing this - an open ending.
The characters' stories are detailed, creating three-dimensional characters,
and I want to give it high marks for capturing the atmosphere of the novel well.
The fact that you can hear the dialogue even with the subtitles off is also a plus!
But I don't think I could watch it twice.
A contract marriage...
I just want to live happily ever after with my partner.
"Trunk" Episode 1
The place where No In-ji always kayaks alone in the early morning is Jucheon Ecological Park, located in Jinan.
"Trunk" Episode 3
This place, notable for its beautiful traditional Korean house with tea and sweets, is located in Busan.
The only drawback is the high price range.
"Trunk" Episode 3
Address: 549, Nonhyeon-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
The contract wedding scene of No In-ji and Han Jeong-won was filmed at The Chapel at Nonhyeon, La Mer Hall, located in Gangnam.
The aisle stands out, connecting to the same platform as the guest seating area, like a church.
"Trunk" Episode 2
This is where No In-ji and Han Jeong-won had their first meal out, and where they discovered their common ground; it's a handmade burger restaurant.
The burger, a size between a Whopper and a Junior Whopper, seems to be a proven hit.
Please note that there is a break time (3:00 PM ~ 4:30 PM).
"Trunk" Episode 8
No need for words. This scene, with its beautiful ginkgo leaves, was filmed in Yeoeuido.
