Hangdong Railroad

Located in Guro-gu, Seoul, Hangdong Railroad is a special walking spot where railroads and nature blend together, which is hard to find in the city center.

This place is famous for its pleasant walking path, and you can walk to the 'Green Tree Garden' along the railroad.

Hangdong Railroad is a disused railway with traces of the past, and strictly speaking, it is located outside the fence of the arboretum, but

it enhances the charm of the 'Green Tree Garden' even more.

In particular, many people visit because of its exotic atmosphere, which changes with each season.

In the past, the Hangdong area was full of unauthorized buildings, slums, and industrial complexes.

However, as part of the ‘Green Seoul Making’ project, the Seoul city government created the 'Green Tree Garden,' an eco-friendly ecological space here,

marking the beginning of a new change in the region.

Filming is strictly prohibited on the actual operating railway, right?

It would also be nice to take pretty snapshots on the disused railway.

Baedari

A floating bridge (Baedari) that King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty used when he visited the tomb of Crown Prince Sado

The Baedari, connecting Dumulmeori and Semiwon in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi-do, was removed in 2022 and reopened after two years.

This bridge is a special legacy that embodies the filial piety and history of King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty.

Baedari refers to a bridge made by placing several small boats in a row and laying planks across them.

Dumulmeori is famous for its beautiful scenery where the Namhan River and the Bukhan River meet.

Crossing the Baedari bridge from here, you can easily reach Semiwon, Gyeonggi-do's first local garden.

The garden of Semiwon, where lotuses bloom, and the open scenery of Dumulmeori

are considered a popular destination for tourists throughout the four seasons.

The newly built Baedari faithfully recreates the appearance used in the Joseon Dynasty,

enhancing its durability with modern technology.

In particular, boats designed to minimize resistance to the flow of water are arranged alternately in the upstream and downstream directions,

drawing attention for its scientific and efficient structure.

The "Noryangju-gyodo-seop-do" depicting the 1795 Eulmyo royal procession.

The Baedari was restored based on thorough verification of historical documents.

The Baedari, which King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty used when visiting the tomb of Crown Prince Sado,

is one of the representative legacies showcasing the technology of that time.

For this restoration, FRP composite materials were used, making it stronger than traditional wood,

and decorations symbolizing Joseon Dynasty military command, such as the five-colored flag and the tall flagpole, were also faithfully recreated.

Woljeonggyo Bridge

This bridge, from the Unified Silla period, was lost during the Joseon Dynasty and was restored in April 2018 after verification.

According to the <Samguk Sagi>, it was built in the 19th year (760) of King Gyeongdeok of the Unified Silla period,

and it connected Gyeongju Wolseong and Namsan.

Through two restoration design surveys and excavations conducted from November 26, 1984 to September 8, 1986,

it was confirmed for the first time that there was a wooden bridge,

and the restoration of a 66.15m long, 13m wide, and 6m high bridge was completed from 2008 to 2013.
