Founded in 1846, Alter St.-Matthäus-Kirchhof is a historical cemetery located in the Schöneberg district of Berlin.

Originally a cemetery for parishioners, it was opened to the public in the late 19th century as prominent officials and scientists began to reside there.

In 1909, a concrete funeral chapel was built, and the design of the cemetery and chapel well represents the architecture of the Prussian Empire.

However, part of the cemetery was demolished during World War II due to Berlin's expansion plan.

After the war, many more graves were destroyed by Allied attacks.

After the parish was dissolved in 2001, the cemetery is now managed by the city of Berlin and preserved as a significant historical and cultural site that showcases Berlin's history and culture.

About 60 graves have been designated as cultural heritage, and the cemetery is used by citizens as a place to relax and learn about history.
